Jonathan Wu

Humorously describes himself to exhibit great resemblance to Garfield, (yes the cat!) “from eating too much to hating Mondays to wake-up struggles…” Jonathan Wu’s passion for composition is anything but lazy or comical. He is currently going full throttle pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition at UCLA with respected composer and pedagogue Richard Danielpour. His previous teacher, composer Wang Jie (and ECI faculty) is his biggest inspirations along with tennis star Rafael Nadal. Both of them exemplify the passion, tenacity and kindness he strives for as an artist and human being.

His musical journey started at 4 learning to play the piano. Even as he has found his new voice in composing, he is still going strong immersed in the opportunities to learn, get involved and challenged as a pianist at UCLA.

He dreams of the day when he gets to attend a premiere of his own orchestral piece. Until then, he is passionately honing every aspect of composition, and he is fearless in seizing every opportunity to write, collaborate. He has quickly produced a variety of instrumentation of works like solo violin, solo cello, multiple chamber music ensembles involving strings, winds and keyboard.
